History
BSR traces its roots back to 1956 with the formation of the Bailey Corporation and its visionary president Virginia M. Bailey. The corporation was involved in numerous neighborhood commercial real estate developments that shaped the landscape of BSR’s hometown of Little Rock, Arkansas. In the 1990s, under the leadership of former CEO John S. Bailey, the company moved entirely into multifamily properties. The name BSR was created from a merger with Summit Housing Partners out of Montgomery, Alabama in 2012.
BSR REIT first went public on the Toronto Stock Exchange in 2018. At that time, the portfolio primarily consisted of value-add properties, many of which were in tertiary Sunbelt markets. In the following years, management transformed the REIT into one of the youngest in the country by rotating capital into newer communities in the “Texas Triangle” markets of Dallas, Houston, and Austin, where 90% of our NOI now comes from.
